Join us as we celebrate Black History Month on the theater stage with Jacksonville’s acclaimed spoken word artist Ebony Payne-English in her one woman show ‘On Purpose.”

Payne-English paints a vivid picture of femininity at the peak of its strength and the pit of its vulnerability in the face of an HIV diagnosis. Told from the diverse perspectives of seven women, she weaves poems, monologue, song, rhyme, and colorful vernacular into an exceptional coming of age story, offering a raw and provocative stance on fear, honesty, and success. We invite you to witness the strength of words, women and welcome back to live theater.

“On Purpose” is an original monologue production created, written, and performed by Ebony Payne-English. Originally directed by JaMario Stills, an alumni of Julliard and founder of Phase Eight Theater Company.

In the following video clip, JaMario Stills discusses his friendship with Ebony Payne-English and how “On Purpose” found its way to the stage.

We invite you to witness the strength of words, women and welcome back to live theater.
