Visits by Appointment Only -- Call 954-545-7800

HOME IS…, the newest exhibition at the Blanche Ely House Museum, is designed as a community-based, participatory installation placing the curatorial power in the hands of the community in pursuit of new questions and communal answers to the following:

  • What is your idea of home?
  • When does "home" become home?
  • What makes a house a home?
  • What makes Pompano home?
  • What makes Northwest Community home?

HOME IS… begins with an empty space, a blank slate, questions and infinite possibilities. Visitors become creators and are invited to visit frequently, participated in community events and appreciate the transformation of the museum rotating gallery space. The Blanche Ely House Museum is open to the public for tours to individuals and small groups, lectures, arts education workshops, community engagement activities and events that delve deeper into the collection.

Mr. & Mrs. Ely’s home, now the Blanche Ely House Museum, was built in 1960 as a part of Sanders Park Community. Let’s take a look back at the cultural context of this community through the eyes of community elders.
