Theater Basics - Preparing for the Audition

High School (grades 9 – 12)
This course introduces and explores theater from page to stage and prepares participants with the basics for auditions. Over five days students will learn everything from stage directions, to makeup, and the do’s and don’ts of auditioning for young actors.
The class will culminate with each student creating a video audition which will be critiqued by the instructor. The class will be taught by Drididi Preston, who is the Director of the Nova High School Theater Troupe.

Drididi Preston, Director
Nova High School Theater Troupe
D. Preston was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She attended the Nova School System from Elementary to High School, where she graduated in 1996.
She attended Nova Southeastern University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater. Her time in Theater Arts Education started at Hollywood Arts and Culture Center where she served as an Education Assistant and an After-School Drama Teacher. She then went on to full time teaching and has taught in both the private and public sector. In 2014 she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked for Fulton County School System as High School Teacher and ran technical management for various professional productions. In 2016, she returned to South Florida, where she began teaching at her high school Alma Mater and serves as the Theater/Troupe Director. In the five years she has taught at Nova High, she has helped the drama program receive Thespian District Level Superior and Critics Choice rankings as well as State Level Superior and Top Honors Rankings. She has directed various Main Stage productions such as High School Musical, The Crucible, Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Aladdin. She also manages and directs “Weight of Words” the Anti Bullying production features annually at the Broward Center of Performing Arts SEAS Program, as well as perform for approximately 15,000 Broward County School Students per year.
Aside from her 16 years in Theater Arts and Education, she has also performed and worked backstage for various productions and theater houses over the past 22 years. She performed, directed, produced and stage-managed shows in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and New York for all ages and backgrounds.
With over 20 years of culminated experience, her goal is to expose her students to the stage and all components of Theatre by educating them and presenting them opportunities on and behind the stage.
