Celebrate Culture, Creativity, and Community at Pompano Beach’s Inaugural Diaspora Market
Mark your calendars and prepare for a dynamic celebration of culture, creativity, and community as the City of Pompano Beach proudly launches its first-ever Diaspora Market. Set in the heart of the city’s historic Northwest Community at the Ali Cultural Arts Center, this free, family-friendly event promises an unforgettable experience that honors the vibrant legacy and cultural contributions of the African Diaspora.
Saturday, June 21st from 10 AM to 5 PM, the Ali Cultural Center’s parking lot, courtyard, and galleries will be transformed into a lively outdoor marketplace filled with artistic expression, soulful rhythms, and bold flavors. The Diaspora Market isn’t just an event—it’s a cultural journey through history, identity, and creativity, offering attendees a chance to connect with the community and celebrate the diverse roots that shape South Florida and beyond.
A Full Day of Enrichment and Engagement
The day kicks off with a refreshing start as Nzingah, founder of Yes Baby I Like it Raw, LLC, leads an energizing yoga session, setting a mindful tone for the festivities. As the morning unfolds, enjoy a powerful dance performance by Ashanti Cultural Arts & Enrichment, showcasing movement as a form of cultural storytelling and heritage preservation.
For lovers of the written word, Joshua Buron will host a special writing workshop, giving attendees the opportunity to explore self-expression and the narratives that shape the African Diaspora. Meanwhile, art enthusiasts can attend a thought-provoking Artist Talk with Tennille Brown, who will discuss her poignant South Florida documentary Rubin, shedding light on local stories often left untold.
The celebration of visual art continues with the final public viewing of Sophia LaCroix’s compelling exhibit, Roots and Realism: A Haitian Artist’s Reminiscence. Through vivid colors and rich symbolism, LaCroix’s work offers a personal glimpse into the Haitian experience, fusing memory with artistry. Adding to the visual feast, acclaimed artist Will Simpson will be live painting on-site, creating new work in real time and inviting the public into his artistic process.
A Marketplace of Culture and Community
At the heart of the Diaspora Market lies a carefully curated cultural marketplace presented by Noir Infusion Arts, brimming with unique finds and handcrafted treasures. From antiques and vintage collectibles to stunning artworks and bold fashion, the marketplace captures the essence of diasporic culture through a modern lens.
Vendors and artisans from across the region will showcase their products and creations, giving attendees the chance to support Black-owned businesses and local entrepreneurs. Whether you're looking for one-of-a-kind jewelry, home décor, or fashion pieces rooted in heritage, the Diaspora Market offers a space to discover and uplift community talent.
Food, Music, and Flavorful Vibes
No celebration is complete without great food and music. The market will feature a variety of local food trucks and vendors, serving up mouth-watering cuisine inspired by Caribbean, African, and Southern traditions. Satisfy your sweet tooth with delectable desserts, or savor bold, savory dishes that reflect the spirit and taste of the diaspora.
Throughout the day, live music performances will keep the energy high and the atmosphere joyful, weaving together sounds from across the African Diaspora—from Afrobeat and reggae to soul, jazz, and more. This musical tapestry will reflect the deep and diverse rhythms that have influenced cultures around the world.
