Zoraye Cyrus

Zoraye Cyrus is an Afro Caribbean American artist whose colorful and detailed large-scale drawings combine family archives and colonial imagery to explore diasporic identity. With her family migrating from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, she uses her experience growing up in New York and Florida to examine different aspects of her multifaceted culture. Drawing from family archives and colonial-era imagery, she creates nonlinear narratives where figures from different generations and places coexist within the same imagined space. With the use of charcoal, pastels, paints, and screen printing, she addresses themes of immigration, colorism, and history. Cyrus received her BFA from the University of Central Florida in Drawing in 2019 and MFA in Painting from Temple University in 2023. She’s showcased her works through the U.S. and has been awarded the South Florida Cultural Consortium Artist Fellowship in 2021 and the Ivy Side Juried Exhibition at Penn State University in 2024.
