We live in a world obsessed with appearances - with what we see. Yet so much of what shapes our experience lies beneath the surface. The emotions we feel, the challenges we face, the growth we go through… these are the true colors of our lives. They are the Unseen. For the last eleven years, I have been on a journey to discover the full range of what I can feel as a human being. Growing up, I learned that boys don’t cry and that feeling was weakness, something to hide. I’ve spent years unlearning this lie, and realizing instead the truth that emotions are what connect us to ourselves, to each other, and to something greater than ourselves. This is the greatest paradox of modern life - what we hide has the most power. In this series, seven large-scale canvases bring what we hide to the surface as an act of re-claiming the power in feeling and expressing our emotions. Each painting is built on layers of color, in the traditional techniques of old masters, yet not to define form, but to create both visual and emotional depth. Like our hidden experiences that shape who we are, these unseen layers create depth and resonance that you feel with your heart before you understand them with your mind. As algorithms and artificial intelligence increasingly rule our world, what will save humanity besides being human? What act of rebellion is more powerful than embracing our inner worlds and expressing ourselves? The Unseen is a space to start the rebellion. Stand among the paintings and let yourself feel without knowing. Pause. Breathe. Remember who you are beneath it all.

Julian Castro spent years engineering pipelines for the oil and gas industry, calculating what could be measured and controlled. Today, he paints what cannot—the emotions we hide, the experiences that shape us, the unseen forces that determine everything. Since leaving corporate life in 2015, Julian has been on an 10-year journey of unlearning his purely analytical ways and welcoming the power of emotions. His large-scale abstract works use layers of underpainting to mirror how our buried experiences color the surface, creating paintings you feel before you understand. Based in Fort Lauderdale, Julian creates art for those ready to stop hiding and start feeling—because in an age of algorithms and artifi cial appearances, embracing our inner worlds isn't just personal healing, it's an act of rebellion.
