Currently, this outdoor gathering space in Pompano’s historic downtown consists of a parking lot, a grassy area under a large native ficus tree, an unimproved alleyway and temporary plywood decking that covers the ficus tree’s exposed root system.
The Backyard will become an approximately 15,000-square-foot pedestrian public and dining plaza, located in Old Town, north of the Bailey Contemporary Arts building between NE First Avenue and N. Flagler Avenue. It will serve as an outdoor dining area for new restaurants that are being attracted to the space. Developing the area into an arts, culture and entertainment district.
